Time under tension workouts create tension on your muscles for longer periods of time which can lead to muscle growth. 

How to do it?

Slower and more controlled movements. Example: During a bicep curl lift up then slowly lower for 2 - 6  seconds. The slow lower is your TUT.

TUT can be a great way to switch up your routine if you've hit a plateau.

Adding TUT to your workouts forces you to focus on your movements which in turn allows you to concentrate and observe your technique 

How many sets?

For maximum muscle growth do at least 4 to 6 sets with 8 - 12 reps per exercise. 

Tip

Focus on timing your sets instead of simply doing a lot of repetitions and keep the tempo slower.
